Nitrocellulose colour lacquer in Solid Classic Gibson Cherry for guitar finishing.

Usage

The nitrocellulose colour lacquer is applied after the primer/sealer coat to provide the guitar’s colour and add an extra protective layer. The Solid Classic Gibson Cherry lacquer is widely used on Gibson guitars.

Compatibility

Compatible with nitrocellulose primer, nitrocellulose varnish, grain filler, and polish pastes.

Preparation And Application

  • Shake the can vigorously for 2–5 minutes before use.
  • Apply thin layers to avoid drips and ensure homogeneous coverage.
  • Work in an environment with low humidity.
  • Spray with a uniform movement from approximately 20 cm distance.
  • Wait 12–24 hours between coats; light sanding between coats is recommended.
  • Apply a primer and sand to 400 grit before spraying colour.

Safety

Nitrocellulose is toxic; use protection (goggles, mask, gloves) and apply outdoors or in a ventilated area.

Finishing tips

For an even build, keep passes overlapping slightly and maintain the 20 cm distance. Allow adequate curing between coats to reduce sink-back before clear coats and polishing.
