Gibson Gold Top nitrocellulose lacquer for the iconic gold metallic top nitro spray finish, applied after the primer/sealer coat to deliver colour and a protective layer. In stock in the UK with fast UK delivery.

Usage

This gold top guitar paint is sprayed after the primer/sealer coat. It provides the colour to your guitar and adds a protective layer to the corps. The Les Paul gold top finish, introduced from 1952 to 1955, is a classic Gibson-style look prized for its warm metallic shimmer.

Compatibility

This nitrocellulose guitar finish spray is compatible with nitrocellulose primer, nitrocellulose varnish, grain filler and polish pastes.

Application

  • Shake the can vigorously for 2–5 minutes before use.
  • Apply thin coats to avoid drips and ensure homogeneous coverage.
  • Spray in a low-humidity environment with a uniform movement at approximately 20 cm distance.
  • Wait 12–24 hours between coats; light sanding between coats is recommended.
  • Apply a primer and sand to 400 grit before spraying.

Notes

Nitrocellulose is toxic; use protection whilst finishing (goggles, mask, gloves) and apply outdoors or in a well‑ventilated area.

Gold Top heritage

The Les Paul gold top finish is associated with classic Gibson-era instruments from 1952 to 1955 and remains a favoured look amongst many collectors and players in the UK seeking that signature gold metallic top shimmer.
