Translucent amber nitrocellulose lacquer in a 400 ml spray for guitar finishing, dispatched from our UK warehouse. This vintage amber nitrocellulose lacquer is applied after primer/sealer to add warm transparent colour and an extra protective layer.

Usage

Apply this amber lacquer spray after the primer/sealer coat to provide colour and an additional protective layer for the guitar body.

Application

  • Shake vigorously for 2–5 minutes before use.
  • Spray thin coats to avoid drips; apply in low humidity.
  • Hold approximately 20 cm from the surface; use a uniform movement.
  • Wait 12–24 hours between coats; optionally sand lightly between coats.
  • Apply a primer and sand to 400 grit before colour coats.

Compatibility

Compatible with our nitrocellulose guitar finish range, nitrocellulose varnish, grain filler, and guitar polishing products.

Build Considerations

  • Electric guitar neck (natural finish): 1 nitrocellulose finishing spray (gloss or matte).
  • Electric guitar body: 1 nitrocellulose primer, 1 colour lacquer spray, and 1 nitrocellulose finishing spray (gloss or matte).
  • Classical or acoustic kit (body and neck): 1 nitrocellulose base spray and 2 nitrocellulose finishing sprays (gloss or matte).
  • Ukulele kit: 1 to 2 nitrocellulose finishing sprays (gloss or matte).

Safety

Nitrocellulose is toxic; use protection (goggles, mask, gloves) and apply outdoors or in a well‑ventilated area.

Getting a Translucent Vintage Amber Look

For a light, see-through finish that showcases the wood, build colour with multiple thin passes of vintage amber nitrocellulose lacquer rather than heavy coats. Keep the can moving and maintain an even 20 cm distance to avoid pooling and dark spots — a favourite technique amongst luthiers in the UK.

Coat Sequencing Tip

After prepping and sealing, apply this amber lacquer spray in thin layers until the desired shade is reached, then lock it in with clear gloss or matte nitrocellulose for a durable guitar finishing result.
