Natural, water based grain filler for open-pore woods like ash, in stock in the UK. This stainable, tintable wood pore filler preserves a clean ash appearance whilst filling pores for a smooth surface prior to sealer and clear coat. Part of our guitar finishing range, dispatched from our UK warehouse.
Tone and Appearance
This natural grain filler has a light yellowish tone suited to ash; use it clear or tint it with compatible dyes and pigments for a custom look.
Drying and Coverage
Dry-to-sand: 2–3 hours. One 200g jar typically fills at least 2 guitars, depending on wood porosity and application thickness.
Compatible Woods
Ash, Mahogany, Rosewood, Jatoba, Paulownia, and other open-pore species.
Finish Compatibility
Suitable under common guitar finishing systems: nitrocellulose, polyurethane, and water based topcoats/sealers.
Recommended Tools
- Sandpaper around P400 for levelling
- Flexible scraper (e.g., old credit card) to pack pores
- Clean cloth or paper towel to remove excess
Application
- Apply a thin coat and work across the grain to pack pores.
- Allow to dry, then level-sand so filler remains only in the pores.
- Repeat a second application if the wood is very porous.
Notes
Tinting tip: Mix in compatible dyes/pigments to achieve a custom tone; test on scrap first. Looking for a coloured option? Explore the full range of grain filler for guitar.
