Dyes and Figure Enhancement
Dyes are suitable to reveal and highlight the grain of wood, especially on quilted maple, flamed maple, and spalted veneers, giving a 3D effect on figured tops.

Type: Solvent-based dye | Color: Sapelly | Volume: 250 mL | Use: Tinting electric guitars and guitar kits
Solvent-based wood dye in Sapelly, supplied in 250 mL. UK delivery only.
Apply after grain filler (if used) and before the sealer coat for best control. Dyes can also be mixed with grain filler, but applying dye between grain filler and sealer with several thin layers helps adjust intensity. Use only with transparent systems; do not combine with opaque products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer.
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane, waterbased solutions, and grain fillers. Use only with transparent finishing: natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer, and clear varnish.
Solvent-based dye to be diluted in a solvent such as water or white spirit. Recommended dilution: approximately 3% to 10% depending on application. Apply with a tack cloth in thin coats, allowing drying between coats. On veneered bodies, avoid heavy application to prevent veneer lifting.
For pronounced grain, apply a black dye base, sand back, then apply the target colour; black remains in deep grain, enhancing the 3D effect on quilted, flamed, spalted, or ash burl veneers. You can also combine black dye with clear sealer (or apply black before sealer), then finish with a transparent colour lacquer.
