Solvent based orange wood dye for transparent finishing systems, ideal for adding warm tints and figured grain effects during guitar finishing. This metal complex dye delivers a clean, light-fast transparent orange guitar dye that suits everything from full corps to figured veneers, and is in stock in the UK.
Usage
Apply the orange dye after grain filler (if used). It can be applied before or after the sealer coat, and may be mixed with grain filler, though applying after grain filler gives better control of intensity.
Work between grain filler and sealer coats with several thin layers to control the grain tint. Do not use with non-transparent products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer.
Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane and water based finishing solutions, as well as grain filler. As a versatile lacquer dye, use only with transparent finishes: natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer and clear varnish.
Preparation & Dilution
Solvent base dye; dilute in a solvent such as water or white spirit for direct application on wood. Recommended dilution is approximately 3% to 10% with water depending on application method.
Application
Apply with a tack cloth. For veneered corps, avoid heavy application in a single pass and allow drying between coats to prevent veneer lift. Explore the full range of guitar wood dye options to build your own palette, with fast UK delivery.
Grain Enhancement Technique
This dye works perfectly as part of a flame dye kit approach. For a pronounced 3D grain effect on quilted or flamed maple and ash burl: apply a black dye base, sand back, then apply the orange dye (or colour of choice). Black remains in the deep grain whilst the top takes the chosen colour.
As one of our metal complex dyes for wood, it can also be combined with transparent colour lacquer: first use black dye with clear sealer (or before sealer), then apply the transparent colour lacquer.
