Alcohol yellow dye for wood finishing in a 230 mL size, in stock in the UK. This spirit wood dye yellow penetrates the timber to add warm colour and bring out figure on guitar tops.
Usage
Apply after grain filler (if used). It can be applied before or after the sealer coat; the preferred workflow is to stain between grain filler and sealer, with the option to adjust after sealer. Use several thin layers to control intensity. Do not combine with non-transparent products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer. Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane and water-based solutions, as well as grain filler. Use only with transparent finishes: natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer and clear varnish.
Preparation & Application
This yellow guitar dye is alcohol-based; dilute in a solvent such as water or white spirit for direct application on wood. If used alongside water-based products, use white spirit for better mixing. Recommended dilution: 3% to 10% with water depending on application. Apply with a tack cloth. For veneered bodies, avoid heavy application in one pass and allow drying between coats to prevent veneer lifting.
Grain Highlighting Tip
Apply a black dye as a base, sand back, then stain with the yellow wood dye to accentuate pronounced grain (e.g. spalted, flame, quilted, ash burl). Dyes can also be used in conjunction with transparent colour lacquer, for example by mixing black dye with clear sealer (or applying black dye before sealer), then finishing with a transparent colour lacquer.
