Tomato red dye in a 230mL bottle — an alcohol based red dye for transparent finish systems, dispatched from our UK warehouse. This red tomato wood dye delivers a vivid red guitar stain that pops over figured tops.
Usage
Apply after grain filler (if used) and either before or after the sealer coat. It is possible to mix dye with grain filler, but applying dye after grain filler provides better control of stain intensity.
Preferred workflow: tint between grain filler and sealer coats, with several thin layers; optionally make a final stain adjustment after sealer.
Do not use with non-transparent finishes such as solid colour lacquer or white primer.
Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane, and water-based solutions, as well as grain filler.
Use only with transparent finishing products: natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer, and clear varnish. Browse the full range of guitar wood dye in the UK to mix and match shades.
Preparation & Application
- Alcohol-based dye; dilute in a solvent such as water or white spirit for direct application to wood. If used with water-based products, use white spirit for better mixing.
- Recommended dilution: approximately 3% to 10% with water, depending on application.
- Apply with a tack cloth. For veneered bodies, apply thin coats and allow to dry between coats to avoid lifting the veneer.
Grain Highlighting Tip
Apply a black dye as a base, sand back, then stain with the tomato red dye to accentuate pronounced wood streaks — the basis of a classic flame dye kit technique. Effective on quilted, flamed, spalted, or ash burl veneers.
Dyes may also be used with transparent colour lacquer; for example, use black dye before or mixed with clear sealer to enhance the veneer, then apply a transparent colour lacquer. See more guitar finishing products to complete your build, with fast UK delivery.
