Alcohol based light orange dye for wood finishing workflows, ideal as an orange guitar stain to tint figured tops and bring out grain depth. In stock in the UK with fast UK delivery.
Usage
Use after applying grain filler (if used) and either before or after the sealer coat. It can be mixed with grain filler, though applying this light orange dye after grain filler gives better control of stain intensity. Prefer staining before sealer, applying several thin layers to control how much the grain is tinted. Do not use dye with non-transparent products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer. Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane and waterbased solutions, as well as grain filler. Dyes allow the use of waterbased solutions; it is advised to use with waterbased lacquer solutions.
Preparation & Application
The dye is alcohol base and should be diluted in a solvent such as water or white spirit to apply directly on wood. If used with waterbased products, use white spirit for better mixing. Recommended dilution: 3% to 10% with water depending on application. Apply with a tack cloth. For veneered bodies, avoid heavy application in one pass and let each coat dry to prevent lifting the veneer.
Grain-Highlighting Tip
For a pronounced 3D effect on quilted, flame, spalted or ash burl veneers: apply a black dye base and sand back, then stain with the chosen colour. You can also combine black dye with clear sealer (or apply black dye before sealer), then apply transparent colour lacquer to enhance the veneer.
