Alcohol based gold dye in Antique Gold for rich, warm wood finishing on guitar builds, in stock in the UK.
Usage
Apply this gold wood dye after grain filler (if used) and either before or after the sealer coat. It can be mixed with grain filler, though staining after grain filler gives better control of intensity.
Stain before applying the sealer, building several thin layers to adjust the depth of colour. Do not use with non-transparent products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer.
Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane and waterbased solutions, as well as grain filler. Use only with transparent finishing products: natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer and clear varnish. Browse the full range of guitar wood dye for matching colours.
Preparation and Application
This antique gold dye is alcohol base and should be diluted in a solvent such as water or white spirit for direct application on wood. When used alongside waterbased products, white spirit gives a better mix.
Recommended dilution is between 3% and 10% with water, depending on application. Apply with a tack cloth. For veneered corps, avoid heavy application and let coats dry between layers to prevent veneer lifting.
Grain Highlighting Tip
Apply a black dye base and sand back, then stain with your chosen gold dyes to accentuate pronounced streaks. This yields strong 3D effects on quilted, flamed, spalted or ash burl veneers.
These dyes also work with transparent colour lacquer; for example, use black dye with clear sealer (or before sealer), then apply a transparent colour lacquer. For more techniques, see our complete guitar finishing range, with fast UK delivery.
