Alcohol based Amber wood dye for wood finishing workflows, delivering a warm vintage amber stain that brings depth to figured tops and tonewoods. In stock in the UK with fast UK delivery.
Usage
Use this amber wood dye after grain filler (if used) and before the sealer coat for best control. It can also be applied after sealer for final tone adjustments. Do not use dyes with non-transparent products such as solid colour lacquer or white primer. Browse the full range of guitar wood dye in the UK for more colour options.
Compatibility
Compatible with nitrocellulose, polyurethane, and water-based finishing systems, as well as natural grain filler, clear sealer, transparent colour lacquer, and clear varnish. For ecological, non-toxic workflows, pair this amber dye stain with water-based lacquer solutions as part of your wider guitar finishing process.
Preparation and Dilution
The dye is alcohol based and should be diluted in a solvent such as water or white spirit for direct application to wood. If you are using it alongside water-based products, use white spirit for better mixing. Recommended dilution is approximately 3%–10% with water, depending on application.
Application
- Apply in several thin layers using a tack cloth to build the amber colour gradually.
- On veneered bodies (quilted, flame, spalted, ash burl), avoid heavy wetting and allow drying between coats to prevent veneer lift.
- Grain-pop technique: apply black dye as a base, sand back, then apply the amber wood dye to accentuate pronounced figure.
- You can mix black dye with clear sealer (or apply black dye before sealer), then follow with a transparent colour lacquer to enhance figured veneers.
