Application
- Tools: ~P400 sandpaper for levelling, a flexible scraper (e.g. an old credit card), and a clean cloth or paper towel.
- Apply a thin coat and work across the grain to pack pores.
- Allow to dry, then level-sand until smooth so the black filler remains mainly in pores.
- Repeat a second application if the wood is very porous.
- If also using wood dye, apply dye first (as required by your method), then use the dark grain filler to reinforce pore contrast.
Benefits
Benefits include a flatter surface for high-gloss or consistent satin finishes, reduced sealer/clear usage, and minimised post-cure sink-back into pores. As a coloured grain filler, it draws out the natural pore pattern for striking visual depth.
Compatibility
- Open-pore woods such as Ash, Mahogany, Rosewood, Jatoba, and Paulownia.
