Why Natural Ash Filler
- Reduces pore telegraphing for a cleaner translucent look.
- Neutral base tone that doesn’t fight custom dye colours.
- Tintable to colour pores for grain-highlight / ceruse-style effects.
Create Any Colour
The metal complex dye concentrates dissolve in ethanol to create a wide range of transparent colours; this doubles as a colour matching kit for guitar finish work, letting you mix multiple colours for bursts, edge shading, and accents. A popular choice amongst luthiers in the UK.
Coverage
Includes enough product to finish at least 2 guitars in most translucent workflows; actual use depends on ash porosity, coat thickness, and application method.
Recommended Workflow
- Grain fill (natural ash): work filler into pores, remove excess, let dry, sand back smooth.
- Seal: apply thin coats of clear sealer to stabilise the surface.
- Dye (ethanol-based): mix target colour, test on scrap/hidden area, apply evenly for a translucent stain.
- Matt clear coat: apply multiple thin coats of water-based clear lacquer matt for protection and even low sheen.
Notes
Testing tip: Colour can shift with sanding, wood type, and lighting. Test and let dry fully before judging; if colour is too strong, dilute with ethanol and adjust hue in small steps.
