Collection: Polyurethane Finishing
POLYURETHANE GUITAR PAINT AND FINISH
A polyurethane guitar finish is used today by most guitar manufacturers and is the typical finish on commercially available instruments. This urethane guitar finish is very durable, does not yellow, does not crack and dries quickly compared to nitrocellulose. On the other hand, a poly finish guitar coat is thick and some players feel the guitar sounds or breathes a little less freely than with nitrocellulose. Like nitrocellulose, a polyurethane finish guitar coating is also toxic. Applying it is a little tedious, as you must mix the polyurethane with a hardener, after which you have roughly 2 hours before the mixture sets. A polyurethane guitar finish is not sold in a spray can, so you will need a spray gun or our refillable spray system. In summary, we recommend this finish if you have already painted a guitar and want a finish like you would find in today's UK music shops: a clean, gloss urethane guitar finish that will not degrade over time.
Closely related to a polyester guitar finish in durability, this guitar polyurethane finish is ideal for a professional-grade result. All products below are in stock in the UK and dispatched from our UK warehouse. Here are the different products to use when finishing a guitar with polyurethane for your Guitar Kit:
- a Grain Filler when using wood with open pores (optional),
- a clear primer for a natural or stained finish, or a white primer if you have opted for a solid polyurethane guitar paint finish,
- a solid coloured, metallic or semi-transparent lacquer, a stain, or nothing depending on the finish you want,
- a glossy or matt varnish depending on the look you want for your electric guitar,
- a Polisher for Guitar for a high gloss finish (optional).
