Guitar Build Levels and Challenges
The Parker Fly Guitar Kit is suitable for beginner builders thanks to its easy assembly and simplified setup, despite a few intermediate-level elements. The mahogany body is mildly porous, requiring some grain filler for a smooth finish, and its unique shape demands care to avoid drips in hard-to-reach areas. The maple neck, on the other hand, needs no filler. Assembly is straightforward with a bolt-on neck that requires no inclination, pre-drilled pots, and simple wiring. There's no need to calculate bridge position or scale length, although measuring it is still advised for accuracy. The soft mahogany body also makes drilling and screwing hassle-free. For playability, the tune-o-matic bridge enables intonation and string action adjustments, though it lacks the fine-tuning flexibility of a tremolo bridge. The nut can be modified but is integrated into the wood, adding some complexity. The single-action truss rod is located at the heel, making it slightly harder to adjust, but the absence of neck inclination eases the initial setup process.
