Guitar Build Levels and Challenges
The Parlor Guitar Kit is best suited for advanced builders, offering both rewarding craftsmanship and technical challenges. The mahogany body is slightly porous—less than ash—so it requires minimal grain filler, and its smooth, curvy shape makes painting relatively easy. The maple neck is ready to go without any filler. Assembly is more complex: the set-in neck demands precision, as gluing is permanent. It's crucial to check alignment and string action beforehand, as explained in our neck integration guide. While the wiring is simple thanks to our solderless system, the absence of a control cavity means pot installation requires a bit more care. Fortunately, the pre-drilled bridge holes eliminate the need for scale length calculations, though we still recommend measuring for accuracy. For setup, the trapeze-style tailpiece allows intonation and overall string height adjustment, though not as finely as a tremolo. The set neck angle and single-action truss rod require you to get the action close to your ideal from the beginning, making this kit a great choice for those ready to take on a more intricate build.
