Bass Build Levels and Challenges
The Ricky Bass Kit is ideal for intermediate level builders due to its more advanced requirements in painting, assembly, and setup. The ash body is highly porous and needs at least two coats of grain filler to achieve a smooth finish, while the intricate curves demand careful attention to avoid paint drips. Assembly is more complex than a bolt-on design, as the RK features a set-in neck that must be perfectly aligned, checked for scale length and string action, and glued in place—an irreversible step. The hard ash wood also requires pre-drilling before screwing. Fortunately, wiring is made easy with our solderless system, and while the bridge must be accurately positioned, the process remains approachable. For sound and playability, the non-removable neck of the Ricky emphasizes the importance of accurate preparation, but the high-mass bridge provides full adjustability for intonation and string height, the nut is easily replaceable, and the lack of neck inclination helps streamline the string action setup.
